Damian Lillard Hits Game-Winner, Robin Lopez Offers Hearty Congratulations

Two awesome things happened at the end of the back-and-forth fourth quarter between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night. First and foremost, Damian Lillard hit yet another game-winner with the game clock ticking down, launching a triple from well beyond the top of the arc to that gave Portland a 119-116 victory. It’s getting to be something of a habit for Lillard, who hit the last shot in overtime on Sunday against the Pistons to win the game for the Blazers.

Pretty awesome, undoubtedly. And a shot like that deserves a congratulations of the highest, classiest order — a congratulations that Robin Lopez was more than happy to offer.

A classically understated congratulations, like a proud papa greeting a recent college graduate. How perfectly Robin Lopez. How perfectly Blazers.

Andrew Lynch

When God Shammgod created the basketball universe, Andrew Lynch was there. His belief in the superiority of advanced statistics and the eventual triumph of expected value-based analytics stems from the fact that he’s roughly as old as the concept of counting. With that said, he still loves the beauty of basketball played at the highest level — it reminds him of the splendor of the first Olympics — and the stories that spring forth from the games, since he once beat Homer in a game of rock-paper-scissors over a cup of hemlock. Dude’s old.
