Lion Face Lemon Face 12/02/13: Paul George Is Good At Basketball

Last night should have been a boring night in the NBA, but it was far from it. We had a team work their way back to .500 for the first time in…ages. We had a triple overtime game, which doesn’t happen very often. We had a game-winning jumper from one of the oldest men in the world. We had a huge upset out in Utah. We had a ridiculously fun game between the two best teams in the NBA, which also featured a career night from one of its youngest stars. So yeah, it was kind of awesome.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the best and worst moments from last night’s with Lion Face/Lemon Face.

Lion Face: Tracy McGra…Paul George scores 43 points against the Blazers

It came in a loss, but Paul George had himself a ridiculous night in Portland, scoring a career-high 43 points on 16-for-30 shooting from the floor. He also knocked down seven threes and scored 15 points in the final three minutes of game, which nearly put the Pacers over the hump. I think we can start calling Paul George a superstar from now on. Everyone agree? Cool. And if you want to call him the MVP at this early stage of the season, I won’t argue with you.

Lemon Face: The Houston Rockets

Two nights ago, the Houston Rockets gave the San Antonio Spurs their first home loss of the season. Last night, the Houston Rockets went back on the road and lost to the Utah Jazz, also known as the worst team in the association. Harden scored 37 points, but Hayward, Burke and Burks combined for 71 points. The Rockets may have forgotten how to play defense.

Lion Face: Roy Hibbert on Twitter

In the closing minutes of the game, LaMarcus Aldridge accidentally kneed Roy Hibbert in the, uhhhh…you know, man region and he took to twitter after the game to say that next time he plays the Trailblazers, he’ll wear a cup.

It’s all love, though. Aldridge responded, saying he doesn’t play dirty, which Hibbert believes because, well, he tweeted this:

#Bromance.

Lemon Face: The Chicago Bulls lose…again

They put up a valiant effort against an Anthony Davis-less Pelicans squad, but the Bulls lost in triple overtime. The good news is that Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Mike Dunleavy and Taj Gibson all played really well. The bad news is that they’ve now lost six of their last seven games and are now 7-9 on the season. Welp.

Lion Face: Tim Duncan makes history

After scoring 23 points and grabbing 21 rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks, Tim Duncan joined Robert Parish as the only 37 year olds in NBA history to put up 20-and-20 in a game, per Reddit. And to make it all that much sweeter, Duncan did this to end the game:

He also had this Kevin Love-esque outlet pass, which he made a little sexier by putting a little je ne sais quoi on it:

Lemon Face: Marco Belinelli is an Italian God

Hey, guess who’s on the cover of the official NBA magazine in Italy? It’s not Paul George. Nope, not LeBron either. Kobe? Good guess, but no.  It’s Marco Belinelli. Yep, the guy who is leading the league in three point percentage.

I’ve got to admit, the “Mamma Mia!” title is a nice touch.

Lion Face: The Wizards are .500 for the first time in four years

Get this: The last time the Wizards were .500 was November 3rd, 2009 when they were 2-2. Since then, they’ve gone 104-221. Well, 105-221 since they beat the Orlando Magic last night by 18 points thanks in large part to John Wall’s 13 assists and Trevor Ariza’s 24 points. It’s also the first time they haven’t had a losing record in the Wall era, which is promising.

Lemon Face: The Knicks

The Milwaukee Bucks are on the road tonight in Boston and with a win, they would switch places with the New York Knicks at the bottom of the standings, meaning they would no longer be the “worst team” in the Eastern Conference. This could get ugly, folks.
