School authorities said the decision was in line with new education regulations approved by Governor Ron DeSantis. According to the new legislation, sexual discussions in school desks are only allowed during lessons devoted to health. Several school board members and teachers said they were not aware of the changes. “I am deeply disappointed that most of our legislators and the governor-appointed Department of Education enforce education laws and rules without thoughtful feedback from the community,” Jessica Vaughn, a member of the school board, slammed in a Facebook post. “Without a lot of guidance on how to implement these rules/laws without affecting student outcomes, without a lot of staff feedback, and almost no clarity about the penalties associated with these new laws and rules,” he said.
