Science in the Circle: Publishing Theater in Ortaccio

The new cycle of “Scienza in Circolo” opens tonight at 9 pm, at Circolo Arci L’Ortaccio in Vicopisano, with “Fantabiologia dell’Amore”, a free conversation between theater and promotion, moderated by Paolo Cavallini, PhD in Animal Biology. Love is an evolutionary invention of our species: how was it born? Why this? Very few mammals, and none of our closest relatives (chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, gorillas), have strong, long-lasting pair bonds. However, we “invented” love as a trick to make the existence of a couple possible. The evolutionary approach helps us understand some of the oddities of our species and live them more clearly. The Science in the Circle course offers a series of educational events through which we can delve into some issues in different fields of science, in an informal environment open to questions. We live in a world shaped by scientific research and its results, but in the productive frenzy that characterizes our society we have lost curiosity and wonder along the way. With “La Scienza in Circolo” L’Ortaccio wants to offer opportunities to bring the world of science and research closer together, with the idea that openness to new knowledge makes life better and stimulates that critical and conscious spirit that is fundamental to democracy. Next scheduled meetings: October 27 “The dreaded particle – the Higgs boson”, with Giorgio Chiarelli, INFN November 24 “Mathematics vs. Asteroids”, with Giacomo Tomei, University of Pisa December 15 “What is the method of science?” With Roberto Gronda, University of Pisa
