(ANSA) – Turin, March 01 – As part of the initiatives supported by the Regional Council for Women’s Day, the photo exhibition “Women, Science and Action” has opened at Urp in via Arsenale in Turin and will be on display in windows until March 31. On screen are projected images of women who have distinguished themselves as scientists or in other professional fields.

“Too often even today – said Council Secretary Gianluca Gavazza, who brought the regional council’s corporate greetings together with Council Secretary Ivano Martinetti – girls are told ‘You’ll never be as good as a man’: it’s the cultural barriers you have to break down by telling how women are left on History left their mark.

Anna Mantini, equality counselor for the Piedmont region, emphasized how often girls don’t turn to science topics. “Observing the stories of women who have made science history and achieved high goals – in this exhibition – can help overcome prejudice,” she said.

“Only 5% of the streets have women’s names,” emphasized Giovanna Cristina Gado, representative of the Women’s Toponymic Society, which actually created the exhibition. “Only the play area in the garden was intended for Lydia Boit, the first female lawyer in Italy,” emphasized Ornella Toselli, president of the Regional Women’s Council.
