One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, and has been published in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump by Shūeisha since July 19, 1997. The publishing house periodically collects the chapters also into volumes in tankōbon format, the first of which was published on December 24. The Italian edition was edited by Star Comics, which began publication in corresponding Japanese volumes on July 1, 2001.

The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body acquires the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating the Gomu Gomu Devil Fruit. Gathering a crew around him, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the legendary One Piece treasure and pursues the dream of becoming the new Pirate King.

One Piece has been adapted into an anime television series, produced by Toei Animation and broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV from October 20, 1999. The Italian version was published by Merak Film and aired on Italia 1 from November 5, 2001 and then continued on Italia 2 in 2001. 2012; Initially titled Boarding! The name of the series changed over the seasons, until settling on the original One Piece.

Toei Animation has also produced 11 TV specials, 13 anime films, two 3D short films, an ONA, and an OVA. Many companies have made different kinds of merchandise from it, such as soundtracks, video games, and toys.

One Piece has enjoyed tremendous success. Several volumes of the manga broke sales and initial circulation in Japan. With a circulation of three hundred million copies as of 2014, the work is the best-selling manga in the world. On June 15, 2015, it also entered the Guinness Book of Records as the comic series drawn by one author with the largest number of copies published: over 320 million.
