The aim of the initiative, on the new House of Science website, is to offer a journey through the lives of the great names in science, such as Eric Chevian, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Aaron Ciechanover, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry. What does the world think about the gender bias that still permeates medical research? What does the Nobel laureate think about the relationship between science and God?

The updated version of the “Dialogs Beyond Borders” project is devoted to these and other questions, starting today online and available to all, in the new web section. The “House of Science” website of the Minarini Foundation. A second round of meetings, with some of the most brilliant minds in the world’s sciences, to allow a journey into the lives of the great medical research geniuses.

Dialogues Across Borders has been enriched with 8 new video interviews, including the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for a total of 15 meetings, including 5 Nobel Prizes. These are informal conversations with the most important heroes of science in the last century, exploring their approaches to life not only in research topics, but also those of ethics and religion, even to the present day. From the relationship with God to gender differences and discrimination in science, to war and the importance of science communication in emergencies, as taught by the Covid pandemic.

When I decided to continue my studies after graduating from biology, my mother told me that women needed a profession, so I set out to study in order to get a teaching license at the same time. I believe that the glass ceiling has been shattered today and that the future will increasingly be populated by female scientists,” she says Hermona SorekA pioneer in the application of molecular biology and genomics.

In a video interview with Aaron Cichanover, the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation, and the sensitive issue of the relationship between science and religion was also addressed. “When I was 10 years old, I thought the Bible was just a heavy book for storing dried flowers,” she says. “God is in my heart, – he continues, -. If you adapt religion to a culture, there will be no contradiction between science and the existence of God.

In “You’re For You” with Eric Chevian, winner of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize, the focus is on nuclear dangers and the fight against climate change. “There is a high level of hostility around the world at a time when we need more international cooperation to address issues such as climate change.”

Among the big names to host Dialogs Beyond Borders is an Italian scientist, Alexander Vespignani, director of the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University in Boston, which is doing a fascinating analysis of the many communication errors made during the pandemic by both institutions, the media, and scientists. “Politics has used crisis and that should never have happened in managing an epidemic,” he comments. “Scientists and the media have not been able to communicate well with the public and explain how science works,” he adds.

“At a time when scientific knowledge plays an essential role in everyone’s life, but is unfortunately seen as specialized knowledge for an elite group of people, we wanted to launch a new way of communicating science by showing the deep connection between scientific progress and everyday life. We hope that this series of meetings will be With “Geniuses of Knowledge”, so different but closely related in their passion and determination in the pursuit of knowledge, an inspiration to all of us and especially to young people” Lorenzo MilaniPresident and Scientific Director of the Minarini Foundation.
