The Sant Cugat Private Foundation, as part of its goals to stimulate public debate, proposes this short course on AI to talk about what AI is and what it is not, what opportunities and risks it entails and what developments are expected from AI. The conferences, with free admission, will be held on Mondays 22 and 29 April and 6 May at 7pm at Casa de la Cultura.
In the first session on April 22, an introduction will be presented under the title: What is artificial intelligence? Origins, business areas, opportunities and threatswith the participation of businesswoman and science publicist, innovation and technology expert Uría Rodríguez and historian and politician Josep Borjaya, which will be moderated by Joan Barba, from the Sant Cugat Foundation.
The second session will take place on April 29 Opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence in education and medicine With the participation of the teacher and professor specializing in the educational use of the Internet, Ramon Barlam y Aspas, a communications engineer, who holds a doctorate in neuroscience, and professor of the Department of Biomedicine at UB Roser Sala Llonch. On this occasion, Joan Jaya, founder of Sant Cugat, will be managing it.
In the last session on May 6, we will talk about Social and political consequences and governance of artificial intelligence, with the participation of Jordi Macias y Montada, IT architect and CEO of AGTIC Consulting, member of the Board of Directors of CIVICAi, and Ramón Palacio y León, telecommunications engineer and associate professor at UPF, as well as member of the Board of Directors of CIVICAi. It is run by Alvar Ruda, Rector of Santkojatinc University.

Uriah Rodriguez
She is currently Director of the South-West Branch for Culture and Creativity of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), and a member of the Board of Directors of Atlas Tecnológico and Fundació Impulsa Talentum. Associate Professor at the Rovira i Virgili University, author of, among others, the books “Antes muerta que Analogógica” and “Antes muerta que sin IA”. He is a member of the Board of Directors of CIVICAi.
Joseph Berjaya
Historian and politician. Doctorate in Contemporary History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Full Professor at the University Vic-UCC. Attached to the College of Business and Communications, of which he was Dean. He was Deputy Mayor of Economy and Finance and President of Impevic. He has published “The Future Is Not What It Was. Urgent Reflections in Times of Uncertainty” (Prose, 2013), “The Welfare State and Its Critics. On the Origins of the European Social Model and Its Crossroads in Times of Crisis” (Octidro, 2013). Joan Najjar Award Article in 2013.
Ramon Barlam and Aspac
He is a teacher and professor of social sciences. Master's degree in Interactive Communications and Multimedia (UAB) specializing in the educational use of the Internet.
Former Consultant Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Auckland, and Trainer of Trainers. She cooperated with several universities and coordinated several working groups. He has written numerous articles and publications on education and the use of digital media and the Internet for Cuadernos de Pedagogía, Escola Catalana, Gix, Perspectiva Escolar, Aula de Innovación Educativa, etc. The Ministry of Education organized a training course on the practical application of artificial intelligence in classrooms.
Rose Lunch Room
Telecommunications Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Barcelona (UB). She is a Professor in the Biophysics and Bioengineering Unit in the Department of Biomedicine at Bridge University, and a member of the Institute of Neuroscience at the same university. She collaborates with the Neurology Service of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and is a researcher at the Wellcome Center for Integrative Neuroimaging (WIN) at the University of Oxford (UK).
Jordi Macias and Munde
IT engineer and senior consultant for AGTIC Consulting, a company specializing in the legal validity of electronic documents and files, in digital identity and technical legal security on the Internet and in adapting AAPP to digital innovations. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of BIID Products AND SOLUTIONS, SL, Director of Firmaprofessional and General Manager of CATCert, the Catalan Accreditation Agency, and Camerfirma. He is a member of the Board of Directors of CIVICAi.
Ramon Palacio and Leon
A telecommunications engineer from UPC, he holds a graduate degree in business administration from UPF and is an associate professor at UPF. He developed his career in companies such as Telefónica, Arthur Andersen, Centrisa or Landata and was Director of Alcatel in Catalonia and CEO of Teytel. In the public sector, he served as General Director of Red.es at the Ministry of Industry, and CEO of Terrasa Science and Technology Park. He has been a Sant Cugat City Council Councilor and Sant Cugat Ombudsman, an active member of telecos.cat and SEBAP, and a member of the CIVICAi Board of Directors.
