Meteocat has activated a series of alerts that arrive with a completely different dynamic than the past few weeks. A few days ago these warnings were for storms and rain across most of the region. Now the forecast has changed and the map is painted yellow for another reason.
The heat is starting to be felt this week. Thermometers have risen sharply and summer weather is being felt across Catalonia. In this regard, Meteocat reports that this has only just begun.
That’s why, on Thursday afternoon, five Catalan provinces will be on yellow alert due to high temperatures. Once again, the demarcation of the Lleida border will be one of the main events of the day, where temperatures could reach 40 degrees.
Meteocat alerts different points of the area.
The heat alert will be distributed over different parts of Catalonia. Ponent will once again experience one of the hottest periods of the summer and the heat will move to the Pyrenees. Furthermore, some storms are expected there on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the provinces in the far north of Girona will also experience a very hot afternoon. A change of direction and leaving the rains of the past weeks in the far northeastern provinces of the country. So, the provinces with a yellow heat alert are:
- Orgel Plan
- Sigria
- Garrigues
- Alternative and Pix Emporda
It should be noted that the warning is moderate, so it is not unlikely that it will intensify in the coming days. Meteocat confirms that the weather will also be hot in the rest of Catalonia, although the numbers are more manageable.
Storms will hit the Pyrenees
Aside from the high temperatures, Meteocat has activated other warnings that could put nature lovers’ holidays at risk. Specifically, the Lleida Pyrenees will record storms of varying intensity throughout Thursday afternoon.
This time there will be six provinces with rain and storms. Vall d’Aran, Pallars Sobirà, Jussà, Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell and Noguera will spend the afternoon on the water from 6.00 p.m. The rains will be particularly strong at the highest point of the demarcation, leaving thunder and lightning in their wake.
This Meteocat forecast comes after many wondered what happened to summer. It was late, and now that it has arrived, it is not expected to be the hottest either. However, there is no doubt that the rise in thermometers has already been noticed across the country.
