(ANSAMED) – Beirut, Oct. 5 – In the past few hours, the Lebanese government handed over to the US ambassador in Beirut, Dorothy Shea, Beirut’s response to the final proposal put forward by US mediator Amos Hochstein for the agreement between the two countries. Israel and Lebanon to divide the energy resources off the coast of the two countries, officially at war since their birth more than 70 years ago.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Abu Saab, who is assigned by the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, to follow up on the negotiations, told the media, that the Lebanese response had arrived. Abu Saab did not specify the details of the Lebanese response to the proposed text of the agreement.
In the past hours and days, international and regional media spread rumors about the final formula for the division of natural gas fields between Israel and Lebanon. The media especially emphasized the potential role of the mediator that the French energy giant Total could play, in the event of a positive agreement being reached between the two parties.
