The injury bug continues to plague the New Orleans Pelicans. Star point guard Jrue Holiday will now be out indefinitely with a right ankle injury. According to the team, Holiday has a stress fracture in his right tibia. Holiday played 29 minutes in the Pelicans loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. Right now though, there is no knowledge as to when or how Holiday suffered the injury.

This is certainly a big blow for a Pelicans team that came into the season with playoff aspirations. The 6-4 point guard was traded from Philadelphia to New Orleans in exchange for sixth overall pick Nerlens Noel. Since coming over, Holiday has averaged 14.3 points 7.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 34 games.

This news come less than a week after the team’s leading scorer, Ryan Anderson, suffered a herniated disk that will keep him out indefinitely. The Pelicans have gone 0-3 since Anderson has been out. Now that Holiday is out, backup point guard Brian Roberts will start for the team.

Currently New Orleans is 15-19 on the season, and is 4 games out of the 8th seed in the Western Conference. If the team wants to stay afloat with Holiday and Anderson sidelined, they will need players like Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans to step up big time.
