After recording a negative value this Monday for the first time in history, the price of electricity on the wholesale or aggregate market falls on Friday to 0.44 EUR/MWh, the day they will return to seeing prices negative. These data are the lowest in 11 years and the fifth lowest in history.

According to data from OMIE, the operator of the Iberian energy market, installing a washing machine will be less expensive from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., when megawatt hours are exchanged at -0.01 euros. On the other hand, light will be more expensive between 7.00 and 8.00 a.m., at which time it will cost €3.25/MWh. In addition, for 13 hours on Friday, the price of electricity will be 0 euros.

In addition, the neighboring country will also face these negative prices for the first time in its history. It is that this Friday is when light in Portugal will be cheaper than in Spain, where it will be exchanged at €0.11/MWh, and values ​​below €0 will be recorded between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.

Despite these wholesale market prices, the energy will not be free on the consumer's bill, as other fixed costs are added from tolls, fees and system modifications.

The 0.44 EUR/MWh for this Friday therefore crushes the 0.54 EUR/MWh that was recorded on average last March 10, which was so far the cheapest day in 2024 from the “complex”. You would have to go back to March 30, 2013 to find such one-day lows in its price
