Auditori de l'Ateneu de Banyoles will immerse himself in classical Persian music on Friday, and he will do so with the help of two Iranians with long and important careers: Shahab Azinemehr and Masoud Naderi. The concert will take place at 8pm and tickets are already on sale on the Cultura Banyoles website.

Shahab Azinmehr is a translator of the tar and satar, the two traditional Persian lutes, and on this occasion he will perform a duet with percussionist Masoud Naderi, a translator of the tumbak or zarb, the traditional drum. Together they will introduce the audience to sophisticated Persian classical music, one of the most beautiful musical traditions of the East.

Although chronologically recent, Persian or Iranian music is a very ancient tradition, shaped over centuries and rooted in the courts of the great Persian dynasties. Although it is not possible to know for sure which era they come from, and according to what elements, rhythms inspired by nature sounds and improvisation play an essential role over the years.

Born in Tehran, Shihab Azinmehr is a professor of Persian music and a graduate in the restoration of ancient instruments. A student of great masters such as Mohammad Mousavi or Dariush Talaei, he has performed at festivals around the world and is a regular collaborator with Jordi Savall. “Shouq Mastour” is his first solo album. Masoud Naderi, born in Tehran and settled in Barcelona, was introduced to the complex art of Persian rhythms from a young age. He has recorded and collaborated with many artists from the Catalan traditional and international music scene, and currently performs with the Nasihbór family of musicians.
