How this mobile made us dream! The mobile phone was in the new millennium: it was announced in September 2000, it was put on the market the following month and it kept and messaged an entire generation of young people.
Obviously we are talking about the iconic Nokia 3310, one of the most successful mobile phones in history, with a figure equal to 126 million units sold, until its withdrawal from the market in 2005. In short, a record, not even an iPhone in the same time frame managed from the match.
And if for a while the Swedish Nokia disappeared from the market, making room for smartphones by expelling regular GSM networks from the attention of users, then its return to the market was very well received by all phone enthusiasts around the world. So much so that today there is almost a rush to buy, especially given the price.
Nokia 3310: an iconic phone icon
But what made Nokia 3310 Unique and creative? It certainly distinguished itself from other mobile phones of the time: a sharp and round shape, the absence of an external antenna, a well-balanced ratio of size and weight. Unrelated to the phones of the early 2000s, which were almost all black, rectangular, and all with an external antenna. Instead, we first found ourselves in front of an integrated antenna that weighs just 133 grams, and its dimensions (113 x 48 x 22 mm) are perfect for one-handed use without carpal tunnel syndrome.
In addition, one of its distinguishing features were the “extra keyboard” keys: the blue central button, the “C” key and the up / down arrows for scrolling through the menus, also represented in a very zigzag way, in keeping with the design of the cell phone.
It is clear that the phone was running 2G – GSM with a frequency from 900 to 1800 MHz. Soon, the new versions of the Nokia 3310 were equipped with 1,000 mAh lithium-ion batteries, which gave the phone ultra-high autonomy from 55 to 260 hours on standby and from 2 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours and 30 minutes a call (talking time).
This phone was so iconic that it was “reviewed” by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015, which chose the Nokia 3310 as its “national emoji” to represent the strengths of the country and its people, commenting: “Indestructible phone. The legendary Nokia 3310 is one of the best selling mobile phones of all time. The phone was built in Finland and is known for its toughness“.
Today, the Nokia 3310, for starters, is back on the market. In anthracite gray, which has been very popular with generations of GSM mobile phone users, it is available on eBay at a price of €299.99.
