Another day for the group stage The 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup has gone into the archives. Here’s how it went on Saturday, May 20th.
Group A
After two periods of offensive drought, the United States launched themselves into the third and final group by ruling Denmark 3-0, with goals from Gauthier, Toch and Grimaldi. With almost the same score, the hosts Finland beat Austria (3-1), the champions Suomela and Oksanen were the decisive scorers. Finally Sweden, able to inflict a clear victory on France 4-0. Unleashed on the Scandinavians, Zetterlund dragged them to the signature gun.
Group B
The most remarkable result was that of the still surprising Switzerland: the Swiss actually beat Canada 3-2, in a match lit up by the very heavy goals of Simeon and Ampol.
But in the other matches on the agenda, the Czech Republic edged out Norway 2-0 and Latvia beat Kazakhstan away 0-7.
Tomorrow’s matches, Sunday, May 21, will be: It includes Germany and Hungary for the first group, Slovenia – Slovakia, Czech Republic and Switzerland for the second group.
