“Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive,” Smith wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. “My behavior at the Academy Awards was unacceptable and unforgivable. I want to offer my public apologies, Chris. I was wrong and I am embarrassed. My actions are indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence. In a world of love and kindness.”
“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers, attendees and viewers around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams and my family from the movie ‘King Richard.’ It has been a wonderful journey for all of us,” the actor concluded, describing himself as a ‘work in progress.’
