The Chinese government has warned that if the European Union continues to intensify trade frictions between the two parties, it could eventually ignite a “trade war,” and stressed that the responsibility, in this case, lies entirely with the 27 countries. .
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce confirmed that Beijing does not want the current trade frictions, defending that the Asian giant is always committed to the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides and constantly clarifies its position before institutions and countries. EU member states show an open and cooperative attitude, so that the problem is resolved through dialogue.
“China has always followed the rules of the World Trade Organization and used corrective trade measures wisely and with restraint,” the Chinese official said, and accused the European Union of “continuing to provoke trade disputes.”
In this sense, he noted that since 2024 alone, the EU has imposed 31 trade and investment restrictions against China, including 25 corrective trade measures, in addition to launching an investigation into the Foreign Support Regulation (FSR) and the International Procurement Instrument (IPI) investigation against China, Which seriously interfered in economic and trade cooperation between China and the European Union.
“The European Union continues to intensify trade frictions and may lead to a trade war,” the Chinese spokesman said, adding that “the responsibility lies entirely with the European Union.”
In this way, Beijing believes that the consensus reached by the leaders of the two parties, which indicates deepening cooperation and appropriate handling of differences, has not been implemented.
“In this EU anti-subsidy investigation, the EU ignored the important consensus reached by leaders of both sides, ignored objective facts, ignored China’s repeated official statements, predetermined the results of the investigation and imposed inappropriate tax rates, which harmed the interests of enterprises on both sides and affected On global cooperation to address climate change.
Likewise, according to the Chinese government, WTO rules were not followed, since the European Commission initiated an anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles in China on its own initiative without any initiative from the industry and the results of the investigation were predetermined.
On the other hand, Beijing believes that the legitimate rights and interests of companies are not protected, noting that in this EU anti-subsidy investigation, Chinese companies were subjected to intimidation, coercion and pressure, threatened with punitive high tax rates and required to provide very broad information, much of it including Commercially sensitive and core company secrets.
“The EU’s approach is typical protectionism and China is determined to protect legitimate interests,” a Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman warned.
