NAPLES (Niello Lauro) – Paolo Camarota bears no responsibility for the fire that set the Città della Senza in Naples on the night between 3 and 4 March 2013. This was established by the judges of the fifth section of the Supreme Court of Cassation who annulled the judgment handed down for the judges of the Court of Appeal of Naples v. the 57-year-old ex-regent of Fola. The decision, which imposed a prison sentence of 5 years and 4 months, was “cancelled”. Camarota, who was defended by lawyers Antonio Tomeo and Luca Capasso, rejected the charges from the outset and so far they have accepted the argument of the lawyers.

A long and complex case: conviction in the first degree, acquittal in the second degree, annulment of an acquittal verdict by the first section of the cassation, a new ruling on appeal, the annulment of yesterday’s ruling by the first section of the cassation. According to the prosecution’s thesis, the “Città della Scienza” was destroyed to unlock a large insurance policy that would have paid debts with outside suppliers and employees for months without pay. A thesis dismantled by the defenders with a 57-page document in which there is a telephone conversation showing that on that day Camarota was called to duty at the last minute due to the absence of another guard, a circumstance he excludes, according to the premeditated lawyers. Another defensive consideration was that the ex-trustee, employee and creditor of the “Città della Scienza”, could not “attack his place of business, to move from an economically difficult situation to an economically compromised situation once and for all”. The documents are now back in the Court of Appeal for a new second instance trial.
