Washington. A dagger worth $24,000 was among 16 gifts that arrived from Saudi Arabia, with a total value of more than $45,000. Cufflinks, a vase and a copy of the Taj Mahal worth $4,600 were among the seventeen gifts from India. Then, again, a life-size photo presented by the President of El Salvador and golf clubs to then-Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, between 2018 and 2019.
These are some of the hundreds of gifts obtained from foreign authorities that were not announced by former US President Donald Trump. This was revealed by the White House, explaining that its value is more than a quarter of a million dollars, according to a US government report.
Under the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act, gifts exceeding $480 in value must be reported to the State Department to the president, vice president, and their families from foreign officials. Commenting on the 15-page report drafted in a year of analysis, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jamie Raskin said Trump’s behavior is “a flagrant disregard for the rule of law and his systematic mishandling of large gifts.” Stephen Cheung, Trump’s spokesman, responded that “many articles were received before or after the administration,” according to The Guardian.
