How “normal” is the food we eat? The meeting with conductors of science Dario Bressanini, chemist, and Beatrice Mautino, biologist, begins from This Question, scheduled for Friday, November 4, at 6.30 p.m. at Delfini Library.

The appointment opens the “Science to Eat” programme, the Science Month promoted by the Historical Libraries and Archives of the Municipality of Modena, in collaboration with UniMoRe, and dedicated this year to food with the aim of discovering and telling, at times unpredictable, the relationships between culinary practice and scientific theory.

From culinary techniques to the combination of ingredients, from the legacy of tradition to the surprises of a food future that is already so close, Science to Eat offers a journey for young and old, consisting of meetings, observations and experiments, guided by the best experts.

The course, with free admission, starts on Friday 4th November with “Natural Food?” With Dario Bressanini and Beatrice Mautino, authors of the text Against Nature that explores the topic of GMOs. And on Saturday, November 5, 5 p.m., for boys and girls aged 4-7, the novel “Lebron’s Soup and Fairy Tales at the Table” is set, with Pina Iras, a tales picnic for tasting food and its thousandth flavour.

Also in the library at 6.30 pm on Friday, November 18, will be the topic “The future in the dish” with agronomist Antonio Pascal and Mauro Mandrioli, Professor at UniMoRe Department of Life Sciences. Friday, November 25, the protagonist will be Chef Danielle Riponi who will talk about searching for ingredients to make his gourmet sandwich.

On Thursday, December 1, at 6 pm, in the speaking room of the Palazzo dei Musei, Antonella Campanini will speak about the kitchens of the past: “Are we what we eat or rather what we have already eaten?” On Friday, December 2, at 6 p.m., at the Crocetta Library, Marco Boscolo and Elisabetta Tola will propose a trip into biodiversity.

The children’s appointment calendar includes a second appointment on Saturday 12 November, at 5 p.m., with the Crochetta Library, in the Bucci Room, with “In the Kitchen with Japanese Animation: From Books to Cooking,” with Massimiliano Di Giovanni and Capalab; Saturday 19 November at 5 pm, in the Giardino Library, “Erbagustando”, Workshop to discover the spontaneous flavors of Modena plants with Villiam Morelli; On Saturday, November 26, at 5 p.m., at the Rotunda Library, “Cockroaches and Beetles: Food of the Future?” is scheduled. , a meeting of boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14, by Lara Maestrillo and Carlotta Totaro, where the most brave will be able to savor the news that lies ahead.

The last appointment for the youngest is Sunday, November 27, at the Dida Laboratory of the Historic Archive with Crafts and Ancient Food in Modena. The meeting, organized by PopHistory, has two periods: 3 p.m. for children aged 7-10; 5 p.m. for 11-13 year olds.
