Numerous activities and space-themed guided tours on the occasion of Easter, Liberation Day and Labor Day. Adults and children will be able to take part in a Mars mission in the new Mars Base Laboratory, experience the stages of astronaut training in the museum’s virtual cinema and discover hidden treasures in the space district.
For Easter, Liberation Day, and Labor Day, the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology offers a rich program of special activities and guided tours of the space. Moreover, Thursday 14, Friday 15, Monday 18, Monday 25 April and Sunday 1 May, extraordinary opening from 9.30 to 18.30.
Mars base
Museum visitors will be able to experience a space experiment in the new Base Marte Laboratory, which recreates a base on Mars as an innovative scenario to experiment with STEM through an unprecedented live role-playing game. Designed specifically for kids ages 10-14, Base Marte is an immersive environment in which you put yourself in the shoes of an astronaut crew on a mission to the Red Planet to ensure the base’s survival. The lab is part of the national project STEM*Lab – Discovering Stimulating the Transmission of Emotions – selected by the social enterprise Con I Bambini as part of the Juvenile Education Poverty Contrast Fund and coordinated by the Kairs Consortium.

The day of human space travel, the best films on the topic
The journey into space continues in the new VR Cinema where participants, dressed as spectators, will be able to experience first-hand the stages of an astronaut’s training, and immerse themselves in the documentary Being an Astronaut, the first-ever virtual reality film shot in space. Created in collaboration with Rai Cinema, the special permanent VR zone allows the audience to explore the most creative frontier of vision, between experimentation and interaction. On Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May, to complement the viewing of a documentary, it will be possible, together with the curator, to take an exclusive guided tour of the space department.

Spring Break News is the Private Guided Tours of Space: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow to recap the history and perspectives of space exploration and with an introduction, an itinerary intended for adults and children from 4 years old. The museum’s space department presents great unpublished objects, interactive experiments, insights and curiosities as well as the only part of lunar rock found in Italy, the prototype of the Soviet lunar exploration suit called Krechet, the equatorial sector by Jonathan Sisson and space suits by Samantha Cristoforetti – Departure to the Minerva – Luca mission Parmitano, on board the International Space Station. The visit was opened by the large Merz-Repsold telescope thanks to which Giovanni Schiaparelli observed and described the surface of Mars, which helped create the legend of Mars. Also of particular interest is the temporary exhibition of satellite images of Earth, fragility and beauty – Taking the Pulse of Our Planet from Space, which is promoted by the European Space Agency in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency. Finally, you can’t miss a visit to one of the museum’s iconic characters, the Vega rocket, a 1:1 scale model of the first stand developed by ESA and Avio, located in the museum’s outdoor spaces.

There are also many activities in the interactive labs, with proposals alternating in the digital You & Ai and in the labs of Future Inventors, Genetics, Nutrition, Chemistry, Leonardo and the Tinkering Zone labs. The temporary exhibition Sociocromie, curated by architect and designer Giulio Seppi and dedicated to the historical and social value of colour, has been extended until Sunday 3 July 2022. Free guided tours of the Transportation Department are always provided on weekends and holidays. For a fee at the Leonardo Galleries, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, and inside the Enrico Totti submarine.
