This here is a preseason highlight video of Giannis Antetokounmpo: a.k.a “The Alphabet,” “The Greek Myth,” “Feta World Peace,” or whatever nickname you prefer. (Quick tangent: To be honest, I haven’t decided which one I like best, but I think one that will stick hasn’t been thought of yet. Usually nicknames just come naturally.)
But enough about his nickname, let’s get to the video.
If for some reason this is the first you are hearing of Giannis, you need to go Google him immediately. The young Greek forward is one of most interesting and exciting prospects in many years. There was a reason he was my pick for which rookie we were most looking forward to watching when we had our roundtable a while back.
He’s got great length (word to Jay Bilas), ridiculously large hands, and all the athleticism in the world. Just watching those highlights above show how much upside potential (hi again, Jay) he has.
There were multiple “LeBron” blocks (chasing someone down on a fast break and block their layup/dunk attempt), some crazy dunks, a few examples of his three-point range, and even a “Dirk” fadeaway.
Of course he won’t be a star right away, but he’s going to be a tremendous joy to watch this year and in the many that follow. Just another reason to be excited about the start of the season.
Catch Giannis and the Bucks on Wednesday night, as they travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks in the opener for both teams.
