The Port of Tarragona is installing two skimmers to clean the water layer

The Port of Tarragona has installed two fixed devices to clean the water layer called skimmers. This initiative aims to collect and manage waste accumulated in the water cover, by applying an innovative and technological strategy. These teams have been installed at the Mall De Costa pier and will be 3 meters wide, 1.5 meters long and 2 meters high. These dimensions provide the system with a waste collection tank with a capacity of 300 liters, which is sufficient to pump 30 thousand liters of water per hour. Management of both devices will be carried out by Marina Port Tarraco employees, who will receive special training from the equipment manufacturer.

Scrapers targets

The Tarragona Port Authority is working to achieve a sustainable and clean future through concrete actions. This search for sustainability is reflected in its active role in collecting and managing the waste accumulated at the Mall de Costa sidewalk. By applying innovative and technological strategies, they strive to keep the port's waters clean.

The two automated cleaning teams start work today and will act as support for the daily cleaning currently being carried out by the Pelicano vessel (the vessel responsible for manually cleaning the water sheet). In this sense, it is a collaboration between technology and human effort aimed at ensuring more effective and careful cleaning.

These teams have a design that allows them to approach port areas that are difficult to reach, in order to avoid the accumulation of waste in critical areas.

Operation and management

These bands are 3 meters wide, 1.5 meters long and 2 meters high, allowing 30,000 liters of water to be bombed per hour. In addition, the devices are equipped with a waste collection tank with a capacity of 300 liters.
