The initiative
From pink shirt to purple shirt, a symbol of kindness. With the start of the 2024 Giro d’Italia, the national project “Let’s Build Kindness”, with more than 3,000 Kindness Ambassadors, celebrates the first birthday of the purple jersey. The Costruiamo Gentilezza in Bici Award was born from the joint will of Ivrea cyclist Paola Giannotti, a Guinness World Record cyclist, committed to promoting road safety through the #iorespectthecyclist campaign and the Costruiamo Gentilezza campaign to recognize and promote good behavior and practices carried out by athletes. Enthusiasts and associations to increase the well-being of cyclists and protect their safety, with special attention to young people. A banner prepared for the time trial starting from Foligno and arriving in Perugia on May 10, 2024 will welcome the Giro. Located on Viale XVI Giugno n. 8 – Foligno. “Let’s Build Kindness” is a stage in the kindness journey in which thousands of volunteers, kindness ambassadors, participate. The “Let’s Build Kindness in Sport” award also stems from the project, which was born from the idea of journalist Gaia Simonetti with the support of the Kindness Ambassadors, Chiara Castellani and Silvia Sardi. The award, which is two years old, was inspired by the heartfelt gesture of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario who welcomed a family fleeing war.
