Marcel Jacobs won the gold medal in the 100 meters at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The 27-year-old Olympic blue champion in Tokyo, triumphed in 9″95 against Britain’s Zharnel Hughes (9″99) and Jeremiah Azu (10″13). Eighth: Blue’s other Chitoro Ali (10″28). In the semi-finals, Jacobs won at 10″ 00.
Jacobs dominates the final, equaling the championship’s record, for the first time in under ten seconds with steady winds this season. The Olympic champion and European record holder is enriching his Olympic gold collection, victorious despite the past few months marked by a long string of injuries. Italy returned to the podium of 100 in the European Championships, forty years after Pier Francesco Pavone’s silver medal in Athens in 1982. In the final of the 100, Chitoro closed the other blue in eighth place with 10.28, having achieved a personal best result of 10.12 in the round semi-final.
