Mud rain is becoming increasingly common in Menorca, especially in April and May. This phenomenon causes solar panel installations to not produce enough power. Experts recommend cleaning them between 1 and 3 times each year to improve their pool and get the most out of them.

Salinity, suspended dust and mud rain, which are increasingly frequent in Menorca, can cause solar panels to lose between 20% and 30% of their efficiency. In order for them to work at 100%, good maintenance is necessary. It costs between 5 and 6 euros per plate to clean them. An installation like this in the photovoltaic park of the Royal Club Son Bou, which has about 2,400 panels, would have a budget of about 14,000 euros.

Mud rain is already part of our climatology. According to government meteorological agency figures, mud rain falls on average for 13 days every year. But that number has nearly tripled in recent years. In 2021, 30 days with muddy rain were recorded in Menorca, while in 2022 the record was 32 days.
