Richard M. Sherman, composer of the “Mary Poppins” soundtrack, has died.

Richard M. Sherman, one of the musicians who composed most of the soundtracks for Disney films, such as Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book, died Saturday in Los Angeles at the age of 95. Sherman, a two-time Academy Award winner, became, along with his brother Robert B. Sherman (1925-2012), one of the “most prolific” composers in the history of family entertainment and a key member of the inner circle of creative talent at The Walt Disney Company, the Walt Disney Company said in a statement.

The musician, who died of natural causes, was celebrated for his work in the 1964 classic Mary Poppins. Additionally, he won three Grammy Awards and had 24 gold and platinum albums during his 65-year career. His work spanned from the early days of rock and roll (with hits like You’re Sixteen) and television to Broadway and Hollywood. “Richard Sherman embodied what it meant to be a Disney Legend, creating with his brother Robert the beloved classics that have become a treasured part of the soundtrack of our lives,” Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said in the statement.
