The American dream ends as soon as you get your nose out of the United States

Article by Alfonso Berardinelli in this newspaper On the decline of the American legend ends with the sentence: “Try to say that it is not true.” I’d like to try to contradict Berardinelli, but I’m afraid I won’t. Since 1985 I’ve made America my home and since 2001, a few months before 9/11, I’ve become an American citizen. Becoming a US citizen does not mean, as happens in other countries, just taking a passport, it means becoming a US citizen. Once you take an oath of allegiance to the Star and Stripe flag, all you were before becomes folklore. For Americans, the undersigned has not been an Italian since 2001 with a US passport but only a US citizen born in Italy by chance.
