NBA Trade Rumors: Derrick Williams For Luc Richard Mbah a Moute?

In the latest of the numerous trade rumors we hear throughout the season, the Sacramento Kings are supposedly in talks to send Luc Richard Mbah a Moute to Minnesota for the Timberwolves’ Derrick Williams.

Williams, the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 draft, has not been the player the Wolves expected him to be. Through his career, he’s averaged about 10 points and 5 rebounds a night. But in the early part of this year – his third NBA season – Williams is playing just 15 minutes a game. He’s a bit undersized for a power forward, but has developed just enough of a three-point shot (a shade over 33% from deep last year) to allow him to space the floor a bit.

Mbah a Moute, meanwhile, is toiling away in Sacramento, in his first year with the Kings. A defensive specialist role-player, Mbah a Moute is a very nice player. However, on a rebuilding Kings team, the full potential of his ability is unrealized. He can be an important part of a good team, but on a bad team like the Kings, his talents are pretty much wasted.

The potential deal could be a win-win. The Kings would be getting a talented young player who – if he turns it around – could really help their team in the years to come, which is when they hope to be relevant again. The Timberwolves, meanwhile, would be getting a very solid role-player who could bolster their efforts to return to the postseason.

If the teams are truly in advanced discussions, we should know more about the possible deal soon.
