At Wimbledon, a replay of the 2024 Australian Open final between the Italian and the Russian. Carlos was only distracted in the third set and now awaits the winner between Paul and Bautista Agut
Jannik Sinner’s quarter-final opponent will be Daniil Medvedev. The Russian won the match against Grigor Dimitrov by retirement, who waved the white flag after 40 minutes, trailing 5-3. Medvedev, the 28-year-old world number five, leads Sinner 6-5 in their head-to-head matches, but the Italian has won all five of their last meetings, including the Australian Open final that gave him the title in January. His first career Grand Slam win and the semi-finals in Miami in March.
Karaz has been upgraded.

Carlos Alcaraz was slowed down in the third set only to reach his ninth Grand Slam quarter-final before turning 22, like Rafa Nadal. The Spaniard, last year’s Wimbledon king, saw off world number 16 Hugo Humbert of France 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 in two hours and 58 minutes, who after dominating him for two sets, gave Alcaraz a tough time in the third game and kept him on the ropes until the decisive break in the 11th game of the fourth, where Carlos built his victory. Next up for Alcaraz is the winner of the match between American Tommy Paul and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, scheduled for Court 2 but not yet underway due to intermittent rain interruptions that slowed the day’s outdoor schedule.

After a five-set scare with Frances Tiafoe in the third round, Alcaraz again got an empty pass against left-handed Humbert (the first he faced in this edition of Wimbledon), this time when the match seemed to be in his hands. In the third set, the Spaniard made 10 unforced errors (6 with the forehand) and left three of his four serves on the way, and Humbert, who had not faced the 2023 Wimbledon king before today, began to believe in this achievement. Back to reality through Alcaraz’s separation. The semi-final with Jannik Sinner, the match everyone is waiting for at the All England Club, seems increasingly inevitable.
