New York. A young man was arrested, possibly a white supremacist, many wounded, at least ten dead and a city devastated. It’s the toll of the Buffalo supermarket shooting in the afternoon, the episode reminiscent of the massacre a year ago at a Boulder, Colorado, shopping mall, when a gunman killed ten people, including a policeman. Another weekend of ordinary American madness, this time in New York State’s second largest city.
So far, there’s going to be a murder frenzy on the base for someone who showed up at the store in military fatigues, helmet, flak jacket, and armed with at least an AR-15 war rifle. According to police reconstruction, the killer arrived by car in the parking lot of the supermarket, and as soon as he got out of the car, he began shooting at people who were going to the store. did not stop. Sowing blood, he entered the mall and continued the massacre. Bodies and blood were found everywhere. At least five victims were in the parking lot, and others were behind the boxes, where they were looking for shelter. Among the victims was a recently retired Buffalo policeman who worked in store security.
During the shooting, the killer gave a live broadcast via the Internet. A body camera was found on it. Suspected that it was an act of racially motivated violence: The supermarket is located near central Buffalo, in a neighborhood mainly populated by African Americans. The 18-year-old posted a 106-page conspiracy statement online, in which he stated, among other things, “I want you to understand one thing from this paper. White birth rates must change. The white population is declining.”
The entire area was isolated for hours. Only one employee was saved because he went to the refrigerator room to arrange a series of milk cartons. When he began to feel the shots, he locked himself with other people. “I heard the shooting – he told a local newspaper – it seemed like everything was falling apart.”
Two witnesses said they entered the parking lot as soon as the killer left the supermarket. They referred him to the police: white, long-haired, in his twenties, with a black helmet and something like a rifle. One of them added that the killer had a gun to his chin, then took off his helmet and threw the weapon to the ground, at which point the police jumped on him. Most likely, this is the first hypothesis, he wanted to take his life but did not make it and gave up. Hundreds of people went to the supermarket in search of family members, but the police did not let anyone in. Others are starting to make Facebook live. New York Gov. Cathy Hochhol, who is from Buffalo, promised justice.
