The White House announced the appointment of Jack A. Markle, Ambassador to the Italian Republic and the Republic of San Marino. Former Governor of Delaware, Markel is currently the US Representative to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, with the rank of Ambassador. Previously, he served as the White House coordinator for Operation Allied Welcome. Markell was previously President of Jack Markell Consulting, LLC. He is a former Senior Vice President of Comcast Corporation and Nextel Communications. He has also served as president of the National Governors Association, president of the Council of State Governments, and president of the Democratic Governors Association. Markel holds a BA in Development Studies and Economics from Brown University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. The position of US ambassador to Italy has been vacant for years: the last was Louis Eisenberg, who took office in August 2017, until his farewell in January 2021. Now the appointment of Joe Biden.
