(ANSA) – ROME, Feb 18 – New satellite images show that a tactical pontoon bridge that has appeared over the past 48 hours is under construction in Belarus along the Pripyat River, a major river less than 6-7 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, it was removed. CNN reported this, citing informed sources.
Western intelligence closely followed the construction activities of the bridge, fearing that it would serve in the invasion of tens of thousands of Russian troops who are currently in Belarus to conduct joint military exercises, which are scheduled to be completed on Sunday. The same satellite imagery from Maxar and Planet Labs, which has highlighted its existence since Tuesday night, shows it has now been removed.
The reasons for its construction are still unknown, but experts speculate that it may have been used in military exercises and that Russian and Belarusian forces have already used it to transport materials and will no longer need it. (Dealing).
