The price of fuel once again presents a new surprise to drivers. On this occasion he does so when there is little left before Easter begins. During these dates, millions of vehicles are expected to be on our roads.
With this scenario, the most logical thing is for service stations to raise prices again. But at the present time it is possible to see a decline in the price of diesel for the second week in a row, while in gasoline there is an opposite trend. It has been eight straight weeks of cost increases.
Therefore, diesel users who stop at the gas station during these days will face this price discrepancy. Last week, the price of diesel became cheaper by 0.64%, reaching 1,542 euros per liter, while the price of gasoline rose by 0.31%, reaching 1,614 euros.
It is difficult to find gasoline for less than 1.6 euros. It's been two weeks since he broke that barrier for the first time since November. For its part, diesel reaches its same price in the first week of December.
Gasoline and diesel prices varied over the past week
Fuel type | price | Contrast ratio |
diesel | 1542 euros per litre | – 0.64% |
Gas | 1614 euros per litre | + 0.31% |
Adverse dynamics at gas stations
Clearly, fuel follows opposite dynamics. The decrease in diesel prices is offset by an increase in gasoline prices.
Over the past month, the value of the latter has risen by 2.67%, while the price of diesel has risen by 0.98%, according to the European Oil Bulletin. However, the value of gasoline is 1.82% lower than it was a year ago, compared to 3.14% for diesel. If we focus only on the beginning of the year, gasoline is 5.21% more expensive, and diesel is 3.28% more expensive.
Gasoline and diesel prices have varied in recent months
Fuel type | Difference in the last month | Variation since the beginning of the year |
diesel | + 0.98% | + 3.28% |
Gas | + 2.67% | + 5.21% |
Both remain above price levels before the outbreak of war in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the price of a liter of gasoline reached 1,592 euros, while the price of diesel reached 1,479 euros. In any case, both are still far from the values reached in the summer of 2022, when they exceeded 2 euros.
When it costs to fill the tank
With current prices, to fill a 55-liter tank of gasoline, you will have to pay 88.77 euros. This means 1.65 euros less than in the same period in 2023. In the case of diesel vehicles, the money to be spent will be 84.81 euros, that is, 2.75 euros less.
This data confirms that diesel is still cheaper than gasoline. They have stayed below diesel for 55 straight weeks. We must not forget that between August 2022 and February 2023, the price of diesel was higher than the price of gasoline.
