(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, June 20 – “The United States will do its part to ensure that those who have sought asylum here receive the assistance they deserve.” US President Joe Biden said this to mark World Refugee Day, stressing that his administration is also committed to supporting refugees “the most vulnerable such as women, children, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and people with disabilities.”
“Because of Russia’s war against Ukraine, we recently reached a sad milestone: more than 100 million people have been displaced,” Biden continued, stressing the United States’ commitment “to work with the international community to come up with long-term solutions to support refugees,” including through resettlement. We are also engaged in diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of displacement and end the ongoing conflicts that drive refugees to seek safety outside their countries.”
