(ANSA – AFP) – SEOUL, AUGUST 10 – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has fired his top general and told the military to intensify war preparations in an “offensive manner”, including increased weapons production and more frequent exercises: KCNA reports Northern KCNA.
Kim sacked Chief of Staff Pak Soo Il, to be replaced by Vice Marshal Ri Yong Gil, during a meeting of the Central Military Commission held yesterday, a few days after he visited some important weapons factories.
According to the Central News Agency, the agenda for yesterday’s meeting was “the issue of comprehensive preparations for war,” including the need to “procure stronger means of attack” to ensure “perfect military readiness for war.” Kim called on “all munitions factories to step up mass production of various weapons and equipment.” KCNA added that the North Korean leader “also called for active war exercises to operate the latest weapons and equipment efficiently.” (ANSA – AFP).
