Day 6 Live! Indian Wells: Nadal ahead, Paolini wants second round
4 hours ago
After two crushing defeats to Nadal, in the final at the Australian Open and in the semi-finals in Acapulco, Gael Monfils regrouped and eliminated Medvedev (currently number 28 in the world) starting with a definite advantage. In fact, the Russian put a surgical break in the ninth game of the first set and scored an easy win. The Frenchman, however, still has plenty of energy and Number 1, very tense and not 100% of physical form, dies at the beginning of the second set, lost five times the service, gave only 50% of the initial value, and smeared his pedigree with as many as 28 free errors. For Monfils, this is the second victory over the world number one: his first in Doha in 2009 when he beat Nadal 6-4. Thursday in the second round if he will see him against Carlos Alcaraz, who eliminated his compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in just one hour 6-2, 6-0. It will be a challenge for generations: Monfils is twice the age of the Spaniard (35 vs. 18).
Medvedev: “I want peace. Am I without knowledge? Even in games …”
