It promises to be another exciting year of horse racing action in 2022, with new stars making their big breakthrough, as connections will be hopeful that they have a star within their arsenal that can compete for the most lucrative of prizes.

Tiz The Bomb
One of the most exciting horses in training in the United States at present is Tiz The Bomb. The two-year-old has won on both turf and dirt to date, and there hasn’t been a final decision made as yet regarding which of the terrains he will be looking to dominant next year.
Many of his biggest victories have come on the turf at present, which already includes a Grade 2 success in the Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland.
He was also the unlucky loser in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, as he was beaten by Modern Games, who was scratched before being reinstated just for prize money. Tiz The Bomb was a close second in that race, and if he can continue to showcase that form on the turf over the next 12 months, then he could be a fascinating rival to keep an eye on.
Echo Zulu
The best two-year-old in the United States at present is also one of the most exciting. A huge 2022 could in store for the horse trained by Steven Asmussen, as she looks to continue her winning start on track. Very few two-year-olds boast a record that is as eye-catching as Echo Zulu, as the two-year-old has won on all four starts to date and has picked up wins in three Grade 1s.
Her first success in that company came in the Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga, before it was followed up with a quickfire second Grade 1 just a month later in the Frizette.
Success at the Breeders’ Cup soon followed, as Echo Zulu stormed to success in the Juvenile Fillies, with a high-speed figure of 100. All eyes for connections will be on the Kentucky Oaks next year, where she is already the clear favorite. Following that, she could be entered into either the Preakness Stakes or Belmont Stakes should connections want to go down that route.
Luxembourg
It won’t just be the huge American Triple Crown races that will be getting the attention in 2022, as the British Classics also look set to be thrilling affairs. The early ante-post favorite for the Derby at Epsom is already Luxembourg for trainer Aidan O’Brien, and the two-year-old looks like a progressive sort that could be on his way to the very top of the sport.
Luxembourg is a perfect 3-0 at present, having made his debut at Irish track Killarney back in July. Since then, he has improved on that showing, winning on both starts since September.
The first of those was a dominant showing at the Curragh, as the two-year-old won the G2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford Stakes by a commanding four and three-quarter lengths from Manu Et Corde. He found life slightly more difficult on his first start in the United Kingdom at Doncaster, but still looked in control of the race throughout. Eventually he won the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes by a length and three-quarters from Sissoko, with Bayside Boy in third. The Derby will be the big objective in 2022 for Luxembourg, and we will likely learn more about his chances when he makes his seasonal reappearance in the spring, but the future looks bright at present.
