Everyone is aware of the pulse that Alejandro Fernandez and the leadership of the Popular Party have maintained in recent months. The leader of the People's Party of Catalonia, loyal to his ideas in the face of the process, did not hesitate to raise his voice against the party leadership in its attempts to court Gonz after the general elections.
This did not satisfy Genoa, which tried to relieve Fernandes at the head of the formation in Catalan territory. However, the numerous support enjoyed by the President of the Catalan People's Party and the electoral progress prevented Figo from implementing his intentions.
Alejandro Fernández's power was so great that many considered it reckless to change the candidate a few weeks before the election. Moreover, he is a candidate with great support not only in the party in Catalonia, but also in Madrid, in the Catalan constitutional world and even outside this region (there are even independence supporters who have publicly praised the president of the Catalan People's Party).
Alberto Nunez Figo had to admit his defeat on the pulse with Fernandez. Of course, it is a lukewarm defeat. Genoa had to surrender to what was considered one of the best speakers in Parliament, but now Figo took his revenge.
Surprises in PP lists
On the one hand, Feijóo chose to associate Alejandro Fernández and his free spirit with a short. For this reason, Dolores Montserrat was appointed chair of the Electoral Committee of the People's Party. The first consequences of this movement are already becoming clear. The confirmed first names of the popular charts are proof of this.
This Wednesday, the People's Party is scheduled to present candidates for the other three Catalan provinces. For Barcelona, the leader will be Alejandro Fernández and his second-in-command Manu Reyes, mayor of Castelldefels, who is considered closest to Dolores Montserrat and the party leadership and one of the emerging figures in the formation. Santi Rodriguez, the party's current general secretary in Catalonia and close to Genoa, would also be well placed in the primary positions.
For Tarragona, ex-Ciutadans Perry Huggett will top the charts. Lorena Roldan, who is linked to Alejandro Fernandez, is expected to be number two in this demarcation process. The People's Party is likely to get between one and two members of parliament for Tarragona. For Girona, the responsibility will fall on Jaume Viray, while for Lleida, it will be on Montse Berenguer.
Thus, Feijóo found a balance to maintain peace between all sectors of the Catalan People's Party. This is a capitulation to the character of Alejandro Fernández, but it places profiles closer to the top of the party in the rest of the list for Barcelona and even in the rest of the provinces. The aim of them all, of course, is to become, as of May 12, the first constitutional force in Parliament, a struggle which they will continue with the Vox party. Opinion polls predict a significant increase for the People's Party (it could reach 15 deputies, now it has 3), while the Vox Party, which now has 11, is expected to see a slight decrease or even maintain the current number of deputies.
