The main tips against heat are:

  1. You need to hydrate a lot. Drink plenty of water and avoid drinking alcohol and eating large meals.
  2. Avoid going out during the hours of maximum sun exposure, therefore, it is preferable to carry out tasks such as going shopping in the early hours of the morning or in the afternoon when the sun is already low.
  3. People who work outside should cover their heads with a hat and drink more water than usual.
  4. It is also highly recommended that if you go out to exercise, such as running or cycling, you do so during the cooler hours, early in the morning or in the evening.
  5. People with chronic diseases, children and the elderly are the ones who suffer the most from the effects of extreme heat. They need to hydrate more often. It should be taken into account that children and the elderly do not feel thirsty even if they are dehydrated.
  6. If you don’t have a fan or air conditioner at home, a good solution is to spend at least a few hours in a place like a shopping mall or a public facility like a library where there is air conditioning.
  7. It is especially advisable to visit family members or elderly people who live alone once a day, as much as possible, to ensure they are hydrated and follow advice for dealing with high temperatures.
  8. If you have a pet, think about its health and take it for a walk in the cooler hours, making sure it has plenty of water on hand during the day and that it is in the shade.
