Barcelona will award JA Bayona with its highest honour


Yesterday, the Barcelona City Council unanimously agreed to award the Gold Medal of Cultural Merit to film director Juan Antonio Bayona. This distinction is the highest recognition bestowed by the Council. Bayona (Barcelona, ​​1975) won several awards over the past year for La societat de la neu, which won at the last edition of the Goya Awards, and was also nominated as Best Non-English Language Film at the Academy Awards. In the municipal committee held yesterday, all municipal groups supported the awarding of the two awards. Recognitions will be formalized at the next municipal meeting. The City Council also agreed to grant the honorary title Friend of Barcelona to musician, composer and conductor Gustavo Dudamel. The Venezuelan artist is famous for his participation in educational projects around the world for young people at risk of poverty to join orchestras. All groups voted in favor, except for the People’s Party and Vox, which chose the reserved vote.
