The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games takes place at a packed Stade de France.
Also in the stands were French President and host Emmanuel Macron, and Mrs. Brigitte Macron, who shook hands with the many authorities present in the stands. The ceremony opened with “Sous le ciel de Paris”, “Under the sky of Paris”, the famous piece by Edith Piaf, performed under a golden hot air balloon with the Olympic flame that lights up for fifteen days in the Tuileries Gardens.
French swimmer Leon Marchand extinguished the Olympic flame, one of the symbols of the Games, tonight during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 7-metre-diameter ring stopped shining when the four-time gold medallist used a lantern to extinguish the Olympic flame. The flame, which is carried every night in the Paris sky by hot air balloon, will remain one of the most popular symbols of the French Olympic days. It will be lit again during the Paralympic Games scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 8.
