Biennale hosts first posthumous Colleta exhibition in Catalonia
The Xavier Miserachs Photography Biennial also presents the exhibition “Colita. Para un roto y para un descosido”, the first exhibition of Colita in Catalonia after her death last December. An exhibition in which the writer initially participated and which has become a tribute to a selection of her most famous photographs and others that have not been published.

From the city of Barcelona, the transition to gypsies, flamenco, cinema, new song… are some of the themes of the most emblematic photographs that can be found in this room of the Cork Museum in Palafrugell and which is part of the exhibition “Colita. Para un roto y para un descosido” by Isabel Stiva, known as Colita, one of the most political photographers in Catalonia.

The author herself chose the name of the exhibition before her death at the end of last year to show all the diversity of topics and their multiple uses in the work with a spirit of humor, freedom and a feminist perspective.

Coletta was a tireless worker, student, friend and professional colleague of Xavier Miserachs but also of other famous artists such as Oriol Maspons, Leopoldo Pomés or Francesc Català-Roca. During his career, he built up an archive of thousands of photographs of very diverse subjects since the 1960s. Naturally, flamenco and the gypsy world were among his passions that he had to immortalize through the camera.

Coletta has received important awards and recognitions, such as the Order of Artistic Merit of the Barcelona City Council, the Cross of Sant Jordi, the National Photography Award or the Gold Medal of Fine Arts.
