Tàrrega launches 100% electric bus on Monday

Tàrrega has the first 100% electric urban bus, which will enter service next Monday, July 29, replacing the current vehicle. The council claims to be a pioneer in Lleida. The service has 30 stations and registers 20,000 users each year.

The city’s mayor, Alba Beguin, stressed “the city council’s commitment to sustainability and the promotion of public transport, as well as accessibility, as the vehicle is adapted for people with mobility problems.” It has a double ramp, two spaces for wheelchairs and strollers, as well as four seats for people with reduced mobility and an audio-visual orientation system for the interior for blind or hard of hearing people. “We are working to promote the right to carbon-free mobility,” said the state’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Marc Sanglas. “Our goal is decarbonization,” said Valeriano Díaz, director of the Alsa-Mediterranean region. “Clear by incorporating the latest vehicles that achieve environmental efficiency, safety and greater comfort for passengers”. With this 100% electric urban bus, Tàrrega will save 3,800 liters of diesel per month, which means avoiding the emission of 5,700 kg of CO2². The new vehicle has a range of 300 kilometers and will be recharged daily at Motor Tàrrega’s facilities, after reaching an agreement with the company. The recharging of the lithium-ion batteries is completed in less than three hours. In May 2023, the Alsa Regional Administration – concessionaire of the urban bus service since August 2013 – and the City Council signed an agreement for this service and other related improvements. 110,249.36 euros, used to install three new canopies with seats and improve the stops, among other measures. Tàrrega has had an urban bus since August 2000.
