Of these 23 species, scientists have lost hope of seeing another species, including another bird, the Falkman’s Warbler, two species of freshwater fish, eight species of clams and even a plant.

The Federal Animal Welfare Service (Fish and Wildlife Service) determined that the species was “extinct,” they said in a statement. The process of removing them from the classification of endangered species has begun.

This sad news “underscores how human activity pushes creatures to fall and perish.

“The growing effects of climate change can be expected to exacerbate these threats,” he adds.

The ivory woodpecker belongs to the woodpecker family (including the finest woodpeckers). Its scars were black and white, the males had a red ridge, and it measured around two feet.

Experts agree that he last saw the date April 1944, in northeastern Louisiana.

It was classified as an endangered species in 1967, especially because of its disappearance from the forest, but by collectors.

Preserved too late

“It was the loss of virgin forests in the southeast (country) that actually started after the American Civil War that led to the destruction of the ivory-built woodpecker,” said John Fitzpatrick, director of the Cornell Laboratory. Ornithology.

He participated in research efforts for this bird in Arkansas and elsewhere in the 2000s. But for him, there is still hope of finding a model.

“Every decade there is credible information that it was in the United States and in Cuba in the 1980s,” he said.

Eleven species from the islands of Hawaii and Guam, which were declared extinct on Wednesday, are again endangered.

Animals living on islands are at risk of extinction due to isolation. Hawaii and the Pacific Islands have more than 650 endangered plant and animal species, more than any other state in the United States. Many are nowhere else in the world.

According to officials, these 23 species have been classified as too late to be saved.

After all, this condition has made it possible to “protect more than 99% of organisms from extinction”.
