The Guardian: UK could welcome US nuclear weapons – last hour

The US Air Force has set aside $50m in funding to start a project next year that could pave the way for the return of US nuclear weapons to the UK for the first time in more than 15 years. The Guardian reported that. It will be a massive 144-bed facility in Suffolk, England, at RAF Lakenheath.

To justify the expenditure, the US Air Force notified Congress that the building was intended to “house recruits as part of Mission Assurance,” which is the term the Pentagon uses to refer to the Department of Nuclear Weapons, according to experts. Construction of the building is scheduled to begin in June 2024 and finish in February 2026. At a news conference today, the US Department of Defense responded with “no comment” to journalists who asked for information on the news.

According to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), the UK is investing with five other European countries, including Italy, in building storage sites for “special weapons”. In these five countries, 100 B-61 bombs will be placed, according to what Fez learned. It was taken from the UK in 2017, but the storage facilities were never dismantled.
