China recorded 75 new infections on Sunday.

The outbreak, which appeared at Nanjing Airport (east) in late July, has now spread to more than twenty cities and more than ten provinces.

China faces the worst pollution in months, with officials blaming the increase on these cases due to delta variability.

Although the corona virus was first detected in Wuhan in late 2019, China later brought the epidemic under control.

Of the 9.2 million people in Nanjing, authorities organized three large screenings and closed hundreds of thousands of people to control pollution.

The current outbreak of the virus is associated with more infections of the delta type and the peak of the tourist season in the country, leading to a greater use of Chinese air traffic, officials said.

Travelers to Nanjing, a tourist town in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, are wanted by authorities.

1.5 million people in this tourist city were shut down on Friday.

According to health officials, the mini-infection registered in Zhangjiajie was caused by travelers from Nanjing and helped spread the disease to more than 20 cities.

“Zhangjiajie has now become a new starting point for the spread of the disease in China,” virologist Song Nanshan told reporters on Saturday.

“We need to expand the search for contact cases of delta variation.”

Beijing on Sunday reported three local cases of pollution: a family living in the suburbs of the capital returning from Zhangjiajie, the Beijing Health Office said.

The capital has cut off all its rail, road and air connections to areas where corona virus cases have been identified.

Beijing has also closed its doors to tourists and only allows “essential travelers” who have tested negative.

New cases were reported Sunday in Hainan Island, another popular tourist destination, and in Ningxia (northern) and Shandong (eastern) provinces, officials said.

The country is battling an increase in cases of recent catastrophic floods in Zhengzhou, Henan province, after two care workers tested positive in a hospital with foreign patients with COVID-19.

In the city, 27 local cases were registered, and authorities ordered its 10 million people to be screened on Sunday.

After learning that some patients had been vaccinated, Chinese health officials said it was “normal” and reiterated the importance of the vaccine and the drastic measures to be taken.

“Due to the delta variation, vaccine protection may be somewhat reduced, but the current vaccine has a good preventive and protective effect against the delta type,” said Feng Jijian, virologist at China Center for Control and Prevention.

The world’s most populous country delivered 1.65 billion doses on Saturday (alone “Made in China2), but without specifying how many citizens were fully vaccinated.
