The verdict came in the evening after a long judicial tug of war. There is no responsibility on the part of the former Regent for the fire that destroyed Città della Senza on the night between 3rd and 4th March. In fact, the judges of the Fifth Division of the Supreme Court of Cassation overturned the judgment of the judges of the Court of Appeal of Naples against Paolo Camarota. Therefore, the sentence he had been imprisoned for 5 years and 4 months was overturned just one year ago. The guard, who was defended by lawyers Antonio Tomeo and Luca Capasso before the Ermine judges, has always rejected the accusations and now the cassation has accepted the request of the lawyers and annulled the sentence. As confirmed by the prosecution in the various discussions, the Città della Sicenza was destroyed ten years ago in an attempt to release huge sums for insurance collection, money that would have made it possible to settle debts with external suppliers and above all with employees who had been months without pay. The thesis that Camarota’s defense tried to dismantle and that today, after a long judicial process, they have an answer: in this stake, there was no responsibility on the part of the guard in this matter.
The documents will return to the Court of Appeal for a new trial of the second degree, meanwhile, ten years after this destruction, there is still no guilty person.
