Android Auto, the new Coolwalk interface is finally available to everyone

Over the weekend, Google released a The eagerly awaited update to Android Auto Which enables the new Coolwalk interface for all users. The latest version (8.7) also includes a number of new features, including an improved Do Not Disturb mode and an update to Dark Mode.

The new user interface is very reminiscent of Apple CarPlay, in a graphic design that clearly resembles more than Android. The most interesting aspect of Coolwalk is its split screen support at all Android Auto compatible systems, and not just on the bigger, clearer displays they once were. Users can have a single screen divided into three basic information such as navigation, media player and messages, with the Assistant that can suggest in a third box information and suggestions that may be useful at a particular moment (destinations on Google Maps, notifications on arrival or otherwise).

The new user interface stems from the need to make Android Auto run on infotainment systems in very different formats. Google’s service is already capable ofAdapting its interface to any type of touch screen, regardless of size and shape (vertical, horizontal, somewhat extended). In this regard, Google was the first specific Which thanks to Coolwalk, Android Auto can also adapt to a width of 33 inches (like that of the Cadillac Lyriq) or 56 inches (quoting the Mercedes-Benz EQS).

Coolwalk also introduces new features that improve and speed up the user experience on some features and better implementation of the Google Assistant. The new interface will be released gradually to all clients, and at the moment there seems to be no way to force it on your device. Enable the new server-side managed graphics for each client, and Google itself will decide – as often happens – when the time comes to expand deployment to all devices in circulation.

For now, Google hasn’t provided more details on the timing, but the process should be completed in a few weeks. Remember, a new Android Auto user interface was expected for the past summer season, and was announced at Google I/O 2022.
