The death toll from an attack by Russian forces on the town of Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, in which an Uragan missile hit an apartment building, has risen to at least 15. This was announced by the local emergency services. Five people have been rescued so far.
“During the rescue operations, 15 people were found dead at the scene and five people were pulled out of the rubble,” the local branch of the Ukrainian emergency service wrote on Facebook. At least 24 people are still trapped under the rubble and rescue workers are in contact with three of them. It is not clear if there are any other survivors among the remaining 21.
Initially, the head of the regional military administration Pavel Kirilenko announced that six people lost their lives and 30 others, including a nine-year-old boy, were trapped in these hours under the rubble of the building.
Meanwhile, there are about 592,000 Ukrainian citizens who do not have access to electricity. This was announced by the Kyiv Energy Ministry – as reported by the independent Kyiv newspaper – with the determination that most of them are located in Donetsk (350,000), Luhansk (130,000), Mykolaiv (30,000) and Kharkiv (28,000) regions.
“In the past 24 hours, electricity was restored to 22,300 consumers cut off by hostilities. In particular, 11900 in Donetsk Oblast, 6800 in Mykolaiv, 2800 in Kharkiv and 800 in Zaporizhia,” he wrote in a statement. The ministry added that emergency recovery work in some areas is complicated by the intensification of hostilities, demining operations and new damage to the electricity networks.
